New "Web for Artists" Exhibition Opportunity

WEB FOR ARTISTS is a growing network of image-based websites featuring a focus
on simplicity, ease of navigation, readability and high quality representations of artwork.
Designed by an artist and sponsored by the Art Association of Harrisburg, total costs are
only $300/site. This opportunity is available for Artist members of AAH only!

General Exhibitor Requirements

AAH  hosts a total of ten (10) annual exhibitions: six (6) invitational shows, two (2) themed membership shows, one (1) school show (students and faculty), and one (1) international juried show.

The membership exhibitions are non-juried and are open to all AAH member artists. However, prizes are selected by jurors invited from area art colleges or other institutions. The school show is open to all students from the past year's AAH classes, with prizes again chosen by outside jurors.

The juried exhibition is comprised of works from all across the United States and foreign countries, selected by a juror from a nationally-recognized institution from slide entries. To receive a prospectus for the Juried Show to be held next year, send a self-addressed, stamped envelope to the Art Association of Harrisburg, 21 N. Front St., Harrisburg, PA 17101.

Invitational Exhibitions are selected by a panel of AAH Board members and artists.

When applying for an Invitational Exhibition, artists should keep in mind the following:

-  Your slides should be very clear and should show no extraneous background.

- Your slides should show work that is consistent. If you do both sculptures and paintings, only submit one medium, not both. Also, if you do both abstracts and realistic portraits, only submit one style, not both. A series of works, based on a specific theme, is always good.

-  The work that appeals to jurors is almost always very original. Work that is derivative is never good to enter.

-  Work that is unique and striking is what jurors look for. (i.e., don't copy published photographs!)

If accepted for an Invitational show at the Art Association, artists are required to become Artist Members at the cost of $40 per year. The Art Association provides the opening reception for all shows, handles all publicity, printing costs, and show installation. The artists are responsible for shipping or hand-delivering their work to the Association for all shows.

For membership information and show applications, contact the Association at 717-236-1432.
